JiLL on: Delivery Room Rotation

Inside the delivery room you can witness either the creation or the destruction of life. It is because this is the place where babies are being introduced to the world either alive or dead and at the same time could also take away the mother's life in case of complications.

This is what I have witnessed as I was assisting a delivery of a pregnant patient. Her ultrasound shows that her baby has a lot of anomalies like the legs are too short, and the stomach is not visible. She is starting to experience labor symptoms in the preterm stage so the baby should be delivered once her cervix is completely dilated.

When the baby, which is a boy finally came out, it was really cyanotic and did not cry. He was still alive and the doctors are trying everything to resuscitate him. The baby did not survive. When the doctor confronted the mother of what have had happen, tears gushed out from the mother's eyes as I was taking her vital signs. I feel really sorry for the mother because I know that it is really devastating to lose a child.
